Board Preparation at the Mills

Once the logs arrive at the mill, logs must be sorted and numbered to maximize the yield of finished product. They are milled down to cants (square lumber) so they can be dried before milling. The cants are then sorted according to the intended production dimensions. During the rainy season, the mills cannot bring in additional lumber and can only produce from the lumber that they have in stock. This is why new production often must wait until the rains stop when new logs can be transported to the mills.
